Leq sound meter
The ST8180 is a professional Class 2 sound level meter covering 30 – 130 dB with switchable A / C frequency weighting. Beyond instantaneous Lp readings it computes Leq (equivalent continuous level) over a programmable period of up to 24 hours and captures Lmax peaks — the parameters environmental surveys, machinery acceptance checks and workplace noise assessments are written in. A 99-reading memory stores each result with its measuring conditions for on-site recall.
- 30–130 dB
- Leq up to 24 h
- Class 2, ±1.5 dB
- A / C weighting

Why it stands out
- Lp, Leq and Lmax in one meterInstantaneous level, the equivalent continuous level over a programmable window, and the peak — the three values noise reports are built on.
- Leq integration up to 24 hoursAverage over a set period instead of judging from a single instant reading.
- A/C weighting plus FAST/SLOWA-weighting follows the ear for environmental and occupational noise; C stays flat at low frequency for machinery.
- Class 2 accuracy, ±1.5 dBMeets common Class 2 engineering requirements for defensible acceptance checks.

FAQ
What is the difference between A and C weighting?
A-weighting approximates the human ear's sensitivity at moderate loudness — used for environmental and occupational noise. C-weighting is flatter at low frequencies — used for peaks and mechanical noise.
What is Leq and when should I use it?
Leq is the equivalent continuous sound level over a set period — the average energy value noise reports are written in. Set the integration time (hours / minutes / seconds, up to 24 h) before measuring; the longer the period, the more representative the reading.
Auto range or manual range?
The meter starts in auto range, which covers the full 30–130 dB span. For a stable source you can lock one of the six manual steps (30–80 up to 80–130 dB) for maximum resolution; the UNDER / OVER icons tell you when to step up or down.
Does it need calibration?
Annual verification against a 94 dB @ 1 kHz sound calibrator is recommended. Put the meter in A-weighting + SLOW, insert the microphone into the calibrator and adjust the CAL potentiometer until the reading matches the calibrator output (94 or 114 dB).
Are batteries included?
No. The meter runs on 3 × 1.5 V AAA batteries (not included in the standard package); the low-battery icon appears at 3.5 V.
