The ET-23, ET-234A and ET-234B share one earth-testing platform and differ only in what they can measure. ET-23 does 2- and 3-wire earth resistance; ET-234A adds 4-wire measurement and a ≥200 mA low-ohms continuity mode for bonding checks; ET-234B adds Wenner soil resistivity on top. All three read earth voltage to 750 V AC, PV strings to 1500 V DC, and cover 0.030 Ω to 4000 Ω on a backlit 4000-count display.

FAQ

Which of the three models do I need?

ET-23 handles 2- and 3-wire earth resistance for routine grounding checks. ET-234A adds 4-wire measurement — useful when lead resistance matters — plus a low-ohms continuity mode for bonding. ET-234B does everything ET-234A does and adds Wenner soil resistivity for substation and lightning-protection design.

What is the difference between 3-wire and 4-wire measurement?

The 3-wire fall-of-potential method is the standard field test. The 4-wire method adds a separate current and potential circuit, so the resistance of the test leads is cancelled out of the reading — worth the extra lead on low-resistance grids.

How does Wenner soil resistivity work?

Four spikes are driven in a straight line at equal spacing a. The meter injects current through the outer pair and reads the voltage across the inner pair, then computes ρ = 2πaRg. Varying the spacing gives the resistivity profile with depth.

Do I need extra accessories for soil resistivity?

No. The four earth spikes and four test leads supplied with ET-234B are exactly what the Wenner array needs — nothing else to buy.

What is Rk lead compensation for?

It stores the residual resistance of your own test leads. The meter subtracts it during measurement, which matters when you are reading fractions of an ohm on a bonding check.

Can it measure PV string voltage?

Yes. All three models accept 0 – 1500 V DC for photovoltaic strings and 0 – 750 V AC, so the site can be proved dead before any earth test begins.
