FAQ
What is the difference between A and C weighting?
A-weighting approximates the human ear's sensitivity at moderate loudness — used for environmental and occupational noise. C-weighting is flatter at low frequencies — used for peaks and mechanical noise.
When to use FAST vs SLOW?
Use FAST (125 ms) for impulsive events, keypress noise, equipment start/stop impacts. Use SLOW (1 s) for steady average noise and long-term exposure evaluation.
Can it measure an AC outdoor unit?
Yes. Aim the mic at the outlet 1 m away, read the steady value in A-weighting + SLOW. For peaks, re-test with C-weighting + FAST.
Does it need calibration?
Annual calibration with a 94 dB @ 1 kHz reference source is recommended; for large deviations contact your supplier or a metrology lab.
